BEHIND THE
LENS

Why natural light?
I am a natural light photographer.....it is the most beautiful, flattering light available. Therefore, sessions are set according to when the light is best at your chosen location. On my property or downtown, it’s in the morning, and for St. Augustine and the beach, it’s the last 2 hours before sunset. I shoot all day in my studio.
What days of the week do you shoot?
I shoot Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursdays – the last 2 hours prior to sunset.
What do I need to do to book a session?
Contact me through here or send an email directly to karyn@karyncarterphotography.com. Be sure to include the best number and time to reach you and I will call you to look at availability and will talk about a consult. Afterwards, you will receive a Welcome Packet in the mail full of all of the details of the Karyn Carter Photography Experience!
When is the best time to schedule my senior portraits?
There isn’t really a best time, but there might be a best time for you. Some like to schedule the session for the end of summer prior to school starting because they will still have a tan, and no school schedule to work around. Others like the fall months because of the weather, or clothing for fall. Others prefer spring. Keep in mind, though, that Daylight Saving Time is March through end of October and we shoot 5-7pm, the other months the shoot time is 3-5pm, typically you would need to miss the last class period or 2 of school if during this time (Nov-Feb)
How far in advance should I schedule my session?
The earlier the better! I often book out weeks and even months in advance. Fall sessions are usually booked by summer and spring sessions are usually booked during winter months.
What if it rains?
We photograph most of our sessions outdoors, although we do have a studio that we use in combination with outdoor photos if you choose. So weather definitely plays a role in our photo shoot with you! We never compromise your photo day and never take a chance, so if rain or heavy winds are in the forecast we simply reschedule a day that works for you!
How much does it cost?
A $125 session fee is due at time of booking to hold your spot on the calendar. There is a minimum purchase requirement of $500, and that can be made up of what ever products you choose. Gift prints start at $30, most clients invest around $1000-$2000 into their senior portraits. For a detailed pricing menu, please fill out our contact form.
What about clothes? How do I put together amazing outfits?
It's important to wear what you love that represents your unique style. Upon booking your session we will provide you with our exclusive Style Magazine with tips and suggestions with resources on how to pull together the looks you'll love in your photos including the top trends and fashions.
Do you have digital products?
Yes, there are collections that have digital options included or you can purchase digitals after the minimum print purchase has been made. Special note :: I feel very strongly about professionally printing your products and having them to view forever.
What happens after my photo shoot? How long is the entire process?
Within 5 to 10 days you will come into our boutique-studio to view your images presented in a showcase premier slide-show created just for you. This gives you an opportunity to view, touch and feel the quality of our products to decide exactly how you want to display your favorite images. We offer exclusive designs for wall gallery displays, gorgeous senior announcements, premier books and albums, luxe senior art-pieces and digital images for web and print. Coming into our studio allows you to see all of our work displayed large, on our walls!
I have always loved photography. I know that’s what you’re supposed to say when you’re a photographer, right? But honestly, for as long as I can remember, I’ve been fascinated with images. I got a Polaroid in fifth grade and thought I was unstoppable. But I didn’t think photography was a ‘real career’ and if the people who took my senior pictures were any indication of what a professional photographer was, well then no thanks.
So I got a degree in Interior Architecture and Design. One of my mentors told me ‘Karyn, you’re a storyteller.’ I was confused because writing held no interest to me. But after my kids were born, I rediscovered my passion for images. And yes, I was telling a story. Their story. Fast forward and here I am. I feel so blessed to be given the opportunity to do what I love. Everyone has a story, and I’d love to help you tell yours.
